Meet Mick

“I’m looking at my wife and my kids and I’m thinking is this it? Is this how I’m gonna go out?”

Breathlessness from emphysema can be terrifying, as Mick Roberts knows all too well. At the time of filming, Mick was 49 years old. He had been a long-term smoker until he was diagnosed with emphysema and quit immediately. Mick is in his late 50s now, and unfortunately he still deals with the horrible health effects from his smoking habit every day.

‘I’m not the only one with the disease, I reckon my whole family is affected by it. The kids especially.’

Mick soon found that he couldn’t kick the footy with his kids, struggled to walk up stairs and went from being able to do 100 push-ups to not being able to do even one. He’s sharing his story with Australia in the hope that it will inspire people to quit so they don’t have to go through the same trauma. Whatever your health status, you will benefit from quitting smoking. Read up on ways to quit and download the free MyQuitBuddy app today.
