Slip ups

A slip up may be taking puff a of a cigarette, or smoking a cigarette or two. The most important thing to recognise is that you haven’t relapsed but there’s a real risk that you might.

In every quitting journey, there is always a possibility of slip ups. That doesn’t mean that you will definitely slip up, simply that there is a risk in the quit smoking process. Many things can influence this risk:

  • Mood
  • Stress
  • Other smokers
  • Drinking alcohol

It’s important not to use a slip-up as an excuse to go back to smoking.

Having a slip-up is quite common for many people who are attempting to quit smoking. Try not to waste your energy on self-blame, instead see it as a sign that you need to change some of your strategies to keep on track.
