Project Overview

As part of the program, services will be guided through a Make Smoking History project.

Each project aims to:

  1. Ensure people accessing health and community services are routinely offered information and support to reduce and quit smoking; and
  2. Improve people’s access to healthy smoke free environments.

This is done by identifying strategies across seven priority areas. Each strategy is tailored to be specific to the organisation’s needs. Click here to see specific solutions that organisations are putting in place to make smoking history.

A policy sets the project’s long-term goals. The best policies are well thought out, widely consulted and clearly communicated.
The behavioural norms, attitudes and the shared value of an organisation to make smoking history will influence how people engage in and are motivated to achieve the project’s goals.
An organisation’s physical environment is what supports and helps to change shared culture and values.

Building the capacity and confidence of new and existing staff through ongoing training is an important step towards making smoking history in an organisation.

Integrating opportunities to provide ongoing support, information and advice to both staff and people accessing services ensures that all people have the opportunity to improve their health and wellbeing.

Assessing the effectiveness of our work, learning from it and adapting to improve practises allow us to have the greatest impact.
To successfully create change, it’s important to ensure that the people affected by the project are involved in the project.
