Make Smoking History Program

Health and community services across the state are joining forces to ensure everyone has ongoing access to personalised, non-judgemental information and support to help them reduce and quit smoking, in an environment they trust.

To achieve this, a free program is provided to help these services identify tailored solutions for addressing smoking and integrate it into the work they’re already doing.

Program principles

All of the organisations involved in the program share and work towards developing organisational-wide strategies that meet the following three principles:

  1. Sustainable: anything that is implemented is long-term and will continue despite staff or funding changes.
  2. Impact: we aim to have an impact, and demonstrate the positive change we’re making with everything we do.
  3. Easy to access: we aim to make it as easy as possible for people to receive support to quit or reduce smoking. That means that the solutions we implement proactively offer support and do not expect that people will ask for it. We recognise that people may not want to reduce their smoking immediately, but at least they’ll know we’re there to assist when they’re ready.
